Signs, Signs; Everywhere the Signs........

Most people traveling from the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport to anywhere in or near downtown Pittsburgh use the "Parkway", specifically the Parkway West (even if you're traveling east). We call it the "Parkway" to avoid having to remember all those different route numbers, i.e. 22-30, Route 60, I-279, 376 rings a bell too or maybe that's an old number, like old exit 3, now exit 257-A; ought to be a law against that, by the way. In route they pass a multitude of informational signs, some giving more information than was intended....

Along with all the directional signs are a wide variety of advertisements, not surprising, and also lately a veritable plethora of signs telling one how to drive;  Drive Safely, Buckle Up, Slow Down, Don't Tailgate, etc. The fact that these things were supposed to have been learned before getting one's driving license aside, I can't find any particular fault in a friendly reminder or two (or 20 or 30) in a 17 mile stretch of road.

However, I must take umbrage with one particularly onerous set of signs. KEEP ALERT - WATCH FOR DRUNKEN DRIVERS!!! Four such sets (8 signs in total) of KEEP ALERT - WATCH FOR DRUNKEN DRIVERS along the main road from the airport to town!!!! WOW!!!

Just in case someone didn't know or had perhaps forgotten what a bunch of hard-drinking folks live in Pittsburgh. You know, shot and a beer town and all. Better to warn all the visitors and remind new residents, several times. WELCOME TO PITTSBURGH - KEEP ALERT - WATCH FOR DRUNKEN DRIVERS. What's coming next, a sign reading THE LOCALS START DRINKING PRETTY EARLY ON SUNDAYS, HEAVILY DURING FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!?

I for one thought this was an image we were trying to change; though not personally. Smoky City residents enjoy their Boiler Makers (shot of whiskey in the beer). Helps to clean the dust out of your throat. We really have moved beyond that, most days.

How about instead a sign on some of these hills that reads 4 CYLINDER ENGINES KEEP RIGHT!!! That would be a very welcome sign!!
