WE ARE ALL CRIMINAL’S AT HEART
Or at least in our gene’s. Let’s face it, many of our forefathers were criminals, and indeed embedded in our genes are the DNA of a criminal. Australia is a worse case example, of course; being colonized originally and specifically as a prison state.
But we Americans are not originally from much better stock. Many a person, many a group, were forcibly sent or heavily encouraged to “Go to America! Start a New Life!!” simply because they were no longer wanted where they were from. Some of the original Native American’s were criminals, finding it easier to steal a good fishing or hunting spot. Even some that made their entire living fighting and stealing; though not many of the latter.
Recent history has countries deliberately sending us their convicts. Very recent history. Not to mention the ones who came here or still come here voluntarily to escape being caught in their own country. Out of this mix of stock came our grandparents and parents, then us. Hard to imagine somebody who is not somehow closely related to a criminal; a sad statement of affairs but true.
Yet we needed these people, in a growing country someone has to do the jobs we don’t want to do, or just can’t. We welcomed them, officially, on a very tall Statue that was given to us by the French Government. We still do. It didn’t take long before someone figured out that the new arrivals would work for less; far less.
Unions tried to put a stop to this, and after a somewhat in-auspicious beginning they managed to prevail for quite a while, 50 or 60 years. But soon it became apparent that, just like the French in the early 1950’s and the U.S. in the 1960’s and 1970’s in Vietnam, they were heavily out-numbered; in fact, “those” people, who thought a lot differently than you and I on many things, never stopped coming.
We must consider the fact, however morbid it may be; that anybody we are dealing with at any time in any place could be a criminal, at least potentially. It’s in most if not all of our genes. Why then, do we continue to be surprised at the antics that many of our esteemed colleague’s, friends, family, neighbors, shop owners, store clerks, and yes even politicians when they so brazenly disregard the law?
We are still evolving, and most of us are beyond that or honestly trying to get beyond that point. We are better than thieves, and we will act accordingly. Yet do not let your guard down, even for one moment. Tis’ far easier to steal a loaf of bread than to actually make one, and many of us are not far removed from that state of survival or state of mind……..
